full

When I see you skip
(as a pigtailed movie star)
along beside me;
Velcro shoes and grazed knees
up high,
I feel full.
Full of gratitude that your heart
is so light, so free
that your grey sock clad feet
cannot stay on the ground.
I feel full.
Full of contentment
that just for the moment;
that very moment
I might of
presented a world
where you shall not be grounded.

submerged

Then, a lion roaring:
two years of age, on plastic slide
public baby pool bound
dictating his terms
to the undulating savannah.

Now a mighty four-year-old:
captain of playground pirate ship
leading, encouraging, commanding
his invisible crew.

I envy him.

Fully submerged in adventure.
Not toe in, nor lapping rolled up trouser,
but deep into the silky blue.
So submerged, my half-hearted,
self-conscious shark
brings a flash of real fright to his eyes.

shower

I’m staring absently
in the shower
as the water
cascades down
over and over.

The droplets
splash the bathtub
in a of pattern
of sparkling
excitement
again and again.

They remind me
of a moonlit beach
dancing on a
moonlit beach
from long ago.

A memory
almost forgotten.

what do you dream

What do you dream of little one?

A smile, enlightens your face
for the most beautiful of sunsets.
A scowl, flickers across
for a hurt received.
A quickened heart beat
for the thrill of the chase.
A frown, questions
the flight of a bee.
An upturned lip,
for the joy of fragrant flowers.
A serene stillness
from the peace that love brings.
A thousand years of memories
that have yet to be seen.
